Miscommunication around Italian startups

I attended an event about startups, while visiting my home town, Ravenna, Italy.

I whitnessed several politicians opening an acceleration program and a Coworking space. They kept using the “startup” every second word.

It felt extremely off because all their talks made no Danae at all. Until I got it.

When Italian politicians use the word “startup” they don’t refer to fast growing value generators. What they really mean is “microcompany”.

If we look at anything they say, and we apply this different (and wrong) definition, their words are way more reasonable. Still wrong, but easier to understand.
