Good bye notifications, welcome peace of mind

Something strange has happened to me recently. It happened a few times that I was sure my phone was vibrating in my pocket but after checking out the screen there was no new emails, no new messages and definitely no incoming phone calls.

For a long time I thought it was my phone, sending out a notification, probably coming from one of the many apps I’ve installed.

I was recently chatting with my friend Paolo and he mentioned something called the Phantom Vibration Syndrome. It’s a recent syndrome that has been developed and experienced in the last decade. Our brain pairs vibrations (or blinking leds) to the instant gratification coming from our phone: a phonecall, an email, a facebook like, and every now and then recreates such gratification faking the feeling of having our phone ringing (or vibrating or blinking an led).

I recently decided to give a cut to it. I switched off all the notifications on my phone and I turned off the ringtone and the vibration. My phone is totally asynchronous object and since then I feel so much better. I will keep you posted about this decision, so far, so good!

senza suoneria e vibrazione è anche un oggetto inutile per le call in ingresso 🙂
