3 rules for a successful daily blog

What is better than randomly accomplish something, mostly based on no particular skill, and consequently formulate a set of rules to school others on how to better at life?

The answer is: doing it one day too early.

Tomorrow I’m completing my 365 project on daily.lucasartoni.com and these are the rules you can follow to successfully run your daily blog. Go for it!

Rule 1: Start at the right time

There are only two right times to start a blog. One was 10 year ago, before Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat.

The other is today.

Not tomorrow, not next week, today!

Rule 2: Perfect is the enemy of done

You’ll never publish anything if you wait for the perfect post. Just write a sentence, a poem, a picture, a video, whatever. Simply commit to do it daily, no exceptions.

Rule 3: Don’t cheat

If you skip a day, simply backdate the next post. If you know for sure you won’t have time to publish tomorrow, simply schedule a post in advance.

This is not cheating. Cheating is not starting a blog today because you think you won’t have time for it. You don’t need to have time, you need to make time.

Rule 2: Forget stats

Don’t spend a single minute looking at how many people read, like, comment. Building an audience will take time and most likely it won’t happen. If you blog for fame, apply for a talent show. It’s more likely you’ll become popular balancing a ball on your nose than writing a blog.

Rule 1: Write every day

And start today.

Rule 0: Have no rules

It’s your blog, don’t listen to what other people say. Don’t follow rules you find online. Do whatever you like on it. Including odd numbering for your own lists.

I’m completing a 365 project tomorrow. It’s a daily photoblog and you can find it here.

It went on for 366 day so far, because 2016 was leap year. I also published the same picture more than once. I started publishing every day, and I switched to scheduling posts. I skipped posts and I filled up backdating posts. But I made it, how about you?

Start now, not tomorrow, not next week, not in July! Today!

Yeah! I love the second #2. Only blog what’s fun for you. If you’re blogging for stats, take a statistics class or something. 😛

Was about to say the exact same thing: I love the second #2. It’s something I’ve shared with a lot of people who want to start blogging to get money out of it.
